Poundfield Products Ltd was founded by Mark Jardine,
whose experience of the on-site problems of many existing retaining
wall systems led him to the design of the Alfabloc® which he
began manufacturing in 1999. It is a precast concrete retaining
walling system that was – quite simply – quicker and
easier to install than any competing product. It has no protruding
toe and in many cases can be used freestanding. The Alfabloc®
was immediately successful and today is manufactured not just in
Ipswich, but also under licence in Ireland and mainland Europe.
In 2003, the pre-stressed 1 metre wide L-bloc®
was introduced. This is the only pre-stressed interlocking L on
the market and it has many advantages over normal precast Ls: it
is lighter and interlocks, making it more robust and easier to install.
This was soon followed in 2005 by the 2 metre wide L-bloc®,
which has all the advantages of the 1 metre wide unit as well as
the extra width, which halves the time of installation and makes
it very competitive in terms of price.
In 2007, after some three years in development, the
company launched another innovative product: the Betabric® pre-cast
concrete brick faced panel. These panels are manufactured in a purpose
built facility which results in a uniform quality that can be used
for cladding for a variety of building applications. Any standard
sized brick can be used.
The company’s headquarters, situated on a four
acre site at Creeting St Peter, just outside Ipswich, comprises
of the manufacturing plant; the main administration offices; the
quality control centre; the research and development departments;
and the distribution depot.
