Building
a brick retaining wall currently requires either a massive
all brick construction or a concrete block wall with
a brick wall constructed in front. Both options require
significant footings and vertical steel work to provide
the strength.
Poundfield
saw a requirement for combining the strength and versatility
of prestressed concrete retaining walls with the elegance
of brick. There appeared to be no process of manufacturing
such a unit in one process without the need for resin
or pointing.
The Betabric
units can be manufactured in any standard brick size
and colour. The standard unit is 1.8 metre high by 6
metres long and is designed to retain soil up to its
full height.
The cost of
constructing with Betabric units is significantly reduced
since they require minimal footings and no bricklaying.
Savings of more than 50% can be achieved against current
construction methods.
Applications
Betabric units
can be used for retaining soil in road culverts, railway
uses, landscaping round building sites, car parks and
in gardens. In short, anywhere that the site is not
level and where soil needs to be contained and where
a brick finish is more acceptable than concrete. The
units are also suitable for the cladding of industrial
buildings, either as a retaining wall, or simply to
provide an outer brick skin without retaining properties.
