Shuttablocs have been designed to provide an economical solution to casting retaining walls on site.
It is a patented design of a hollow precast unit with an internal reinforcing system which links the two halves and incorporates trays onto which the horizontal reinforcing is laid.
Whilst traditional single wall precast units are suitable in many circumstances for retaining bulk materials some situations require a higher specification to withstand impacts from loading plant or retaining higher loads. Casting walls on site has been the solution to these requirements.
To withstand high loads at any one point on the wall horizontal reinforcement is required. Each unit is tied together to prevent individual blocs being displaced. By pumping concrete into the Shuttabloc™ wall the reinforcing becomes part of the structure in the same way as if it was cast on site. In addition the units have a 100mm recess at each end which both locks the units in line and provides a complete seal to the finished wall.
The Shuttabloc™ system provides a wall with exactly the same properties as a wall cast on site but removes the requirement for formwork.
